Wisła is one of the best places in the Beskids for a trip with children — at any time of year. In winter there is a slope for learning to ski, in summer easy walks to waterfalls, and all year round the Adam Małysz ski jump, the stone bears of the Little Bear Trail and the animals in nearby Ustroń. Below we have collected attractions that work well with children, together with the distance from our cottages at ul. Wyzwolenia 39.

1. Nowa Osada slope — first skiing right next to the cottage

The Nowa Osada ski area is about750 metresfrom Wiślańska Dolina, so with small children there is no need to pack the whole family into the car. The slope is considered family-friendly — with runs for beginners and intermediates, and instructors on site who teach children.

The biggest plus for parents: when your little one gets cold or tired, you are back in the warm cottage within minutes for hot tea and lunch. We describe the other ski areas in our guideski slopes in Wisła for the winter holidays.

2. Adam Małysz ski jump in Malinka — attraction number one

The ski jump in Wisła-Malinka is about1 kmfrom the cottages. For children who watch ski jumping on TV it is a must: you can walk up to the landing hill and take a lift to the top of the jump. From the viewing terrace on the start tower you can see the in-run, the landing hill and a panorama of the Beskids — exactly what the jumpers see before they start.

Opening hours and ticket prices change depending on the season and competitions, so check them before you go.

3. Rodła Cascades — a walk to the waterfalls, also with a pram

This is the best easy nature trip in Wisła for families with small children. You start from the free car park at the Wisła Czarne fire station (about 9 minutes by car from the cottages) and follow the blue trail along the Biała Wisełka valley. The first 2.6 km or so is a tarmac road — easy with a pram or balance bike, with benches along the way. The last 400 m or so to the cascades is a footpath.

The Rodła Cascades are a series of dozens of natural steps and small waterfalls in the „Wisła” nature reserve. Children love watching the water and looking for flat stones. On warm weekends it can be crowded — mornings are the quietest.

4. The Little Bear Trail — a hunt for stone bears

The Little Bear Trail is a themed route around Wisła lined withbear sculptures made of local Godula sandstone — each bear in a different pose. The whole trail is about 16 km long, but you don’t have to walk all of it: for children a game of „find the bear” during a walk around the centre works great. One of the bears stands, for example, by the transport hub next to Wisła Uzdrowisko station.

Tip:make the kids a „bear passport” — a photo with every bear they find. It’s a way to spend a few hours in the centre without any moaning.

5. Wisła town centre and promenade

The centre with its promenade, cafés and ice-cream parlours is about4 kmfrom the cottages (about 7 minutes by car). A good plan for an afternoon: a stroll, waffles, hunting for the Little Bear Trail bears and a walk along the river.

Wisła is also getting the Adam Małysz Beskid Skiing Centre in Kopczyński Park, with interactive zones (including a virtual ski jump) and areas for children. Check before you arrive whether it is already open.

6. Czerniańskie Lake and dam

About3 kmfrom the cottages lies Czerniańskie Lake — a reservoir on the Vistula, regarded as the start of Poland’s longest river. A walk along the dam is a short, flat outing, ideal for younger children and a good „live” geography lesson too.

7. The Presidential Castle in Wisła

The Residence of the President of Poland (the Castle) is about4.6 kmfrom the cottages. Visits are only possible with a guide, in groups, on set days and times — rather an idea for older children interested in history. It’s worth arranging a date in advance.

8. Czantoria in Ustroń — chairlift and views

The lower station of the Czantoria chairlift is about10 kmfrom the cottages (about 16 minutes by car). The chairlift ride is an attraction in itself for children, and at the top there are views of the Beskids and an observation tower. In summer there is a toboggan run by the lift.

9. Forest Park of Surprises in Ustroń — animals up close

About14 kmfrom the cottages (about 22 minutes by car) lies the Forest Park of Surprises — a place where children can see animals in a natural setting, feed fallow deer and watch birds-of-prey shows. The park is open all year, with shorter hours in winter — check current opening times before you go.
